BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

At some point in our professional career, there is a high probability that we will receive a subpoena, a legal command to testify about a client or turn over client records, or a demand to testify in court on the witness stand. Legal settings are foreign settings for most psychologists, involving complex and unfamiliar demands. Most (non-forensic) psychologists do everything they can to avoid these situations: and yet, they sometimes still arise. When that happens, the experience can be anxiety provoking at best, frustrating, and at times, traumatic. Knowing the nuts and bolts of the judicial system and learning the basics strategies to cope ethically and responsibly with a subpoena and/or a court situation will make the experience manageable and help to avoid common pitfalls. Participants in this workshop will be better able to:
